META History ::

The Madras Electric Trades Association, popularly known as META was established in the year 1942. The primary aim was to restore price stability for those electrical products that were imported. But now the role of the association has widened broadly to include protecting the trading community, educating the members on various aspects of the trade including government regulations and organising exhibitions and Seminars.


META also organises from time to time constructive interaction between various government departments like Commercial Tax, Quality Control Department etc. and the electrical industry. META circulates details that gives a comprehensive happenings in the trade and government thus keeping-the members well informed on various aspects like commercial tax, labour department, quality department, case laws etc.


META has grown in statute to a acquire its own office premises in Govindappa Naicken Street and also has its own building called META HOUSE at Pantheon Road, Egmore.


META is the founder member of Federation of All India Electric Trade Association (FAIETA) and also the founder member of Federation of Electrical, Electronics and Engineering Trade Association of Tamil Nadu (FEEETAT). META is also a member in Hindustan Chamber of Commerce, South India Chamber of Commerce, Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Federation of Madras Merchants and Manufacturers Association.


The Association celebrated its Silver Jubilee, Golden Jubilee and the Diamond Jubillee in the year 1967, 1992 and 2004 respectively.


Exihibition in the name of ELECTRICA were successfully conducted in the year 1999, 2001, 2003.


META has also raised and contributed funds at the time of uncertainities and natural calamities. Major contributions were made towards the Chief Ministers Flood Relief Fund, Kargil War Victim Welfare Fund, Gujarat Earthquake in Kutch Dist and drought relief fund.
